Preserving Traditional Tatami
Elegance with Added Comfort
While the tatami room and veranda remain in their original traditional style, the entrance lounge has been transformed from tatami flooring into a wooden living space.
By adding a sofa, the room achieves both comfort and relaxation.
The result is a harmonious space where nostalgia and modern design coexist beautifully.
A "Framed Landscape" Created
Through Thoughtful Window Design
The room preserves original details such as the traditional four-panel sliding shoji screens and the comb-shaped chestnut wood wall fittings.
When the shoji are drawn open to each side, the pine garden outside appears like a beautifully framed painting.
This is a classic technique of sukiya architecture — intentionally narrowing the view to enhance the beauty and impression of the garden.
While other guest rooms emphasize openness, this room leaves a lasting impression through its delicate balance of light and shadow.
The Ultimate Expression of Aesthetic
Detail Hidden Within the "Chijibukuro" Cabinet
Take a closer look at the fusuma doors of the built-in chijibukuro cabinet beside the tatami alcove.
Where fusuma paper would normally be used, this room instead features rare antique textile fragments.
The fabric is an Edo-period textile with an elegant cloud-and-dragon motif, paired with vertically elongated shippo-style handles, revealing extraordinary attention to detail.
In the world of sukiya aesthetics, this antique fabric is considered a truly coveted masterpiece, reflecting the refined beauty of traditional Japanese mounting artistry.
This work was created in collaboration with Seikodo Nakajima, a renowned Kyoto atelier trusted by temples such as Daitoku-ji and the Senke tea schools.
A Special Space Woven with Light and Shadow, Beauty and Serenity
An elegant harmony of openness and restraint, tradition and modernity, beauty and tranquility.
More than simply offering beautiful scenery, this room reveals the very essence of Japanese aesthetics.
A hidden gem cherished by those who truly appreciate refined beauty.
