"Ama no Yūkyū" is the only special suite at SHOUROTEI exclusively designed for two guests.
Its defining feature is the unique funazoko ceiling, unlike any other guest room.
Gently sloping from both sides and meeting at the central beam, the ceiling resembles the hull of a boat. Combined with the room’s location overlooking the Aso Sea, it creates the sensation of floating peacefully upon the water.
This ceiling style is a traditional element long found in sukiya architecture.
A similar design can also be seen in "Seiryūtei," the famous Nanzenji villa created by master craftsman Asajiro Uesaka, who was active from the Meiji to early Showa period.

A Tokonoma Inspired by Water
A Ceiling Woven from Lake Biwa Reeds
The "tokonoma" alcove ceiling also features a unique design detail.
Instead of the commonly used cedar boards, this room uses carefully woven reeds from Lake Biwa.
As reeds naturally grow along the water’s edge, they symbolize 「water」 and create a harmonious connection with the boat-shaped ceiling design.
This special reed ceiling was crafted by "Kubota Misudō", a historic Kyoto atelier specializing in traditional reed screens and bamboo craftsmanship since 1883.
A Layout Designed to Separate
Private and Shared Spaces
The room is thoughtfully divided into two distinct areas separated by a hallway.
On the left side are the private spaces, including the bedroom, vanity area, and bath facilities.
On the right side are the relaxing shared spaces, featuring the tatami room, living area, and traditional veranda.
Designed for a peaceful stay for two, this layout is especially ideal for couples seeking comfort and privacy.
Surrounded by Art Inspired by Amanohashidate…
The bedroom wall features an original artwork created by acclaimed young Kyoto artist Shujiro Takeda, inspired by the beauty of Amanohashidate.
The artist, recognized with prestigious awards including the Nitten Special Selection Prize and the Nichishun Exhibition Award, brings a refined artistic atmosphere to the room through this one-of-a-kind piece.
Refined Elegance in Every Detail
Kyoto Tradition Reflected Even in the Fusuma Handles
Beside the tokonoma alcove is a slender built-in storage space placed midway within the wall, reminiscent of a traditional "nakabukuro" cabinet.
The sliding fusuma doors are adorned with KIRA KARACHO's karakami paper design "Hyōtan Karakusa," while the custom handles were specially crafted by Kyoto’s long-established Muro Kanamono-ten.
The small gourd-shaped handles feature a "sentoku" bronze-toned finish, beautifully complementing the warm yellow tones of the karakami paper.
In feng shui, the gourd motif is believed to ward off negative energy, while the arabesque pattern symbolizes prosperity and family continuity.
Even the smallest details embody deep meaning and refined Japanese aesthetics.
Cherish Luxurious Moments with Someone Special
"Ama no Yūkyū" is a special space where luxury, tranquility, and refined beauty exist in perfect harmony.
Overlooking the Aso Sea, this suite blends the elegance of traditional Japanese architecture with modern comfort, creating an unforgettable retreat for two.
